Use of Maps
The maps show an average noise level for an average day in the year calculated on
the basis of a 10m grid a height of 4m above ground level as required by Directive
2002/49/EC. The maps are strategic and should be used accordingly, i.e. they cannot
be used for a detailed PAN 56 (planning and noise) assessment and should not be
taken to be fully representative of all local circumstances.
Compatibility
The noise maps are compatible with most desktop browsers. Please note that the maps
are not compatible with most mobile devices.
Instructions
Step 1
Select a Noise Source from the drop down list.
Step 2
Select a Noise Metric from the drop down list. You can find an explanation of noise
terms here The appropriate Scotland map will
appear showing coloured clickable areas where data has been collected and processed.
Step 3 - Option 1 Overview Map
Click on a coloured area to be taken to the relevant map. When you hover over the
coloured area you will be presented with the area name. From here you are able to
navigate the map and view the data.
Step 3 - Option 2 Postcode Specific Data
Enter a postcode in the text box and click the search button. If the postcode appears
in the database you will be taken directly to that specific area and will be provided
with the option to provide feedback.
Postcodes are limited to those areas which have been mapped to date. Some locations
have multiple postcodes in which case you will be directed to the default postcode
for that location.
Step 4 - Map Navigation
Click hold and drag with the left mouse button to scroll around the map.
To zoom in and out you can move the indicator on the zoom bar in the bottom left
corner of the map, alternatively you can use the scroll button on your mouse.
Click on the Overview Map button should you want to see which part of the map you
are currently viewing.
